Courageous advocacy is the act of speaking out against an issue of injustice, often on behalf of those whose voice is not heard. It involves being informed citizens, giving time and other resources as well as taking action.
“Speak up for people who cannot speak for themselves. Protect the rights of all who are helpless.”
Proverbs 31 :8
As justice is one of our core values in School, acts of courageous advocacy are ever-present within our school and form aspects of various curriculum areas. It is a part of our school life and we want our pupils to be guided by their beliefs and values and be willing to take a stand to defend them. We always encourage our pupils to stand up for what they believe in and speak out or take action against injustice. Subsequently we hold school events and support our children in championing causes that are meaningful to them.
We aim to instill compassion, empathy and understanding in our Pupils so they are responsive to injustice and we teach Pupils their rights and responsibilities in society and towards others. In encouraging our Pupils to speak up for the voiceless, our hope is that they take their place as active global citizens and have the confidence to make real change.

'There are No Outsiders in our School - Everyone is Welcome, No One is the Same But Everyone is Equal.'
Ethos group launched a 'Design a Banner' competition that spreads this important message to the entire school community. The winning entry (displayed above) will be printed and displayed on the school fence at the front of our school. We have been amazed by the response to this and are very proud of ALL of the thoughtful and beautiful design entries. Congratulations to Lilly-Mae (Y4) whose design was chosen by our dedicated Ethos Group for its clear and vibrant message.

Celebrating Elizabeth Wolstenholme-Elmy
Year 1 learned all about the great Elizabeth Wolstenholme-Elmy in our history lessons. We were delighted to go into Congleton to celebrate the unveiling of her statue and walk in the parade celebrating Votes For Women.
Charlotte and Ella even made it onto the local News!
We learned all about justice and how anybody, no matter how small can make a big difference!
Ethos Group took the message of No Outsiders to Marton Church. We were proud to be joined by Mr and Mrs Udi who talked to the community about their charity ‘Dive In’ whose mission is to promote diversity in schools by supplying diverse and inclusive books and resources to schools in the UK. You can find more information on their website www.diveineducation.org
We continue to raise money for Mosquito nets!
To support our link school 'Braintrust Primary School' in Nawantumbi - Uganda, we are raising money to protect the children and their local communities from deadly diseases.
We are thrilled to frequently welcome Gerry who enables our link. This year we were especially proud to receive a cross gifted to our school by Brain Trust School - beautifully created in Ugandan flag colours.
Craftivism at Marton!
What is Craftivism?
It is to be an activist - courageous about a cause but to be peaceful, thoughtful and create something to raise awareness.
Our whole school underwent a project to promote various causes within their classes (recycling, caring for wildlife, reducing waste, reusing materials etc). This gave the children a chance to quietly and thoughtfully create products to sell and raise awareness. It was a tremendous success!
‘What does the Lord require of you?’ And hear the reply: ‘To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God’ (Micah 6:8)
