  1. This is Us
  2. Sport

Marton Primary School clearly places a strong emphasis on character development and the values that come with Sports and Physical Education. Here is an overview of the key values we focus on in Sport and PE:

  1. Determination: Children are encouraged to keep pushing through challenges and setbacks, fostering a mindset that growth in sports (and in life) comes from hard work and persistence.

  2. Respect: Respect for others, whether it’s teammates, opponents, or coaches, is a cornerstone of the sports culture at Marton. This value teaches children how to engage with others in a positive, sportsmanlike manner.

  3. Honesty: Integrity in all aspects of sports, whether in competition or in training, is key. Children are taught to play fair and value honesty both on and off the field.

  4. Self-Belief: Marton encourages children to believe in themselves, building confidence and self-esteem through sport. They are taught that success comes not just from physical ability, but also from having a strong belief in one’s own potential.

  5. Teamwork: Working together as a team is fundamental to Marton’s sports program. Chilren learn how to collaborate, communicate, and support each other to achieve common goals.

  6. Passion: Passion for sports and physical activity is encouraged. Whether children are competing, training, or simply engaging in physical activity, they are taught to bring enthusiasm and energy to all they do.

These values are reflected not just in external and internal competitions but also in everyday PE lessons, which help build a strong foundation of character that will benefit students both in sport and in life.

In the introduction of sports award badges, our pupils are recognised for their achievement, perseverance, teamwork, and sportsman-ship; for responding to challenge, and for supporting others and developing coaching skills.

We have good links within the local community, the Macclesfield Cross Country partnership and many local sports clubs. These include Vale Juniors, Congleton Rovers, Macclesfield Harriers and Dane Valley Swimming club.

We compete in a large amount of sports, including:

Year 5 and 6 Congleton Football League (Boys and Girls)

Congleton Cross Country (Year 3 through to Year 6)

Year 5 and Year 6 Congleton Netball League

Year 5 and Year 6 Quicksticks Tournament

Sports Hall Athletics @ Eaton Bank Academy

Year 5 and Year 6 Basketball

and many more!

Town Sport's Success

For a small rural school, we do achieve a lot of success in the field of sport and are the current Small Schools Champions in Congleton Town Sports. A title we have held for at least 5 years.

Charity through Sport

We are also supporters of the Congleton Rotary Club and participate in the Swimathon every year. We also take part in the annual Santa Dash for the East Cheshire Hospice. The children also reguarly take on sporting challenges to raise money for other charities including, Christies, The school Friends and Familiy and The Brain Nursery Trust in Uganda.
