Marton School Sensational Summer!13 July 2020 (by headmarton) |
A message from Team Marton
We know lots of children (and adults) enjoy the long summer holidays but for many families the holidays can seem too long and children can become bored; miss the routine of school life and would like to keep busy. This will be incredibly important to some children who have not been in school since March!
Much discussion has occurred in the past few weeks regarding ‘catch up’ programs and summer schools but we want to support our families in a way that feels non-threatening or overwhelming. So we have a plan!
The staff have organised a summer project called ‘Sensational Summer’ with 30 days of fun activities that you may wish to do at home during the holidays. These are purely optional and you will notice, are aimed at all children and all abilities.
They are activities that will support, enthuse and hopefully excite your children. Each activity can be done as a stand-alone activity and children can select the ones they feel most comfortable with. Alongside this is a reading list of books that we feel as staff will appeal to children of different ages and capabilities. We have also included a list of useful websites as we know children enjoy online learning too.
All of this work can be found on our summer learning webpage which will go live on Wednesday 15th July. This will not appear on Seesaw. Staff have prepared paper packs if you would like to collect these instead and these will be ready (in plastic wallets) in the foyer in a box from 15th July. This work does not need to be returned to school, it is purely optional to support you.
From Friday 17th July, all Seesaw work will be archived as we prepare to ‘move the school up’ over the summer holidays. You will not be able to access Seesaw or direct message staff as the children’s journals will be updated over the holidays and we will provide new home learning codes in September. If you wish to download your child's journal please follow the instructions on the Seesaw help center website. Staff will not be accessing Seesaw until we return on 1st September.
If you need to contact school please do so via admin@marton.cheshire.sch.uk or direct to head@marton.cheshire.sch.uk
We want your children to feel positive about returning to school and we are all eager to begin the school year refreshed and ready for the new challenges ahead.
We do not want you to worry that children ‘are behind’ or ‘are ahead’ of their peers; these have been unprecedented times and as educators, it is our job to ensure we support children’s well-being and mental health so they are ready and prepared for academic challenges. In September much work will be done to ensure children feel ‘ready’ to learn and staff will assess accordingly and plan next steps for children. We know that online learning will remain in the future and we look forward to the exciting challenges this brings.
Many thanks to Year 6 children for all your hard work via Seesaw, we hope you have enjoyed your online learning and that this has prepared you for High School. If you want to keep any of your online learning, please save this by Friday 17th July as you will no longer be able to access this after this date.
I am sure in the future we will look back nostalgically about the time that ‘school stopped’ and we want to create memories that your children can tell their children about.
With all our best wishes, Team Marton.
