January Sports report1 February 2022 (by Year5) |
January has been another busy month for sport at Marton and the competitions keep coming.
The Year 5/6 Congleton Cross country competitions have drawn to a close and I am thrilled to announce that Trulie (Y6) was crowned as joint champion after another incredible race. Trulie has trained hard all season and her hard work is really paying off. Well done Trulie and fingers crossed for the Macclesfield races in March. Well done to all the Year 5/6 runners across the two races.
We are half way through the Year 3/4 series of Congleton races, but after a really hard-fought race last week between Martha (Y4) and Harmony (Y4) finishing in 2nd and 3rd respectively, we are in a strong position to do well overall. There were some great team performances and a huge well done to all of those children who took part for the first time and after saying never again, have signed up to compete in the next round.
Last week, 20 children from Year 3 and Year 4 took part in the inaugural Indoor Athletics competition at that age group. Eaton Bank hosted the competition and it was fantastically run by Mrs Andrews and many ex Marton students. The children competed with real spirit, determination and skill in events that many of them had never done before. I was so proud to see them come away with a 2nd place overall finish. Hopefully we can build on this ready for Town Sports later in the year.
The football team have also been in action this term and have continued to do well in the Congleton league. They took on a professional looking outfit from Quinta in the first match and confidence was high following some coaching tips from Nick (ASM). The team looked sharp in attack, solid in defence and unbeatable in goal. A left footed wonder strike from Khy (Y6) gave the team a well-deserved victory. We then lined up against a slick Black Firs team, to whom we can second to. However, there were some magnificent performances, in particular Nile (Y6) in goal and William (Y6) in defence.
I would also like to say a huge congratulations to Maxx (Y3) who has been selected to represent the Canal and River Trust as a Young Cadet fisherman, following placing 2nd in a national competition in September.
There are lots of competitions coming up and I will continue to keep you updated.
