Information for Families, particularly Year 6 Parents31 March 2022 (by headmarton) |
For the Summer term
We have seen a significant increase in children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and this is reflective of National figures too. Some of this is a result of Covid and the support children are needing in which to recover and make progress but much of this is the social and emotional needs of children as their mental health and well-being is a concern. I know you as parents and carers are concerned about children’s well-being too and we thank you for trusting us and working collaboratively with us.
As a result after Easter we will be trialling some additional support to enable Mrs Wilson as our School SENCo (Special needs co-ordinator) to have an increase in SEN management time, initially for the summer term. She will teach every morning in Year 6 with the afternoons dedicated to SEN. Miss Clarke who is also a qualified teacher will teach Year 6 in the afternoon. We have tried this for a number of sessions in the past weeks and they have been hugely successful. As children in Year 6 will complete their end of Key Stage tests (SATs) in May this is a further opportunity to support the transition of our pupils too.
Mrs Woodmass will devote the afternoons in supporting all our pupils well-being and mental health and we have created a dedicated room for children to work in. This will be 1:1/small group/whole class work and identified as needed.
Throughout the summer term, we will measure the impact of this and keep you updated.
Please do check out our school website for information regarding SEN and Well-being and continue to keep us all updated if you need further support.
With best wishes, Nevin Deakin
