    Weekly news from Mrs Deakin

What a brilliant first week back to school we’ve all had. It has been a pleasure to welcome your children and we have been amazed by all their hard work and efforts.

Many thanks for all your support with parking and supporting us in keeping children safe. Mrs Potts and I have enjoyed being outside and seeing everyone each morning.

From Monday our ELSA and Play Patch will be open each lunchtime to provide children with opportunities to play and socialise as we know not all children like to go outside, please support your children in attending these sessions. Our after school clubs will begin week beginning Monday 15th September. Please contact school if there is a change to home time arrangements too.

Can I remind you that we are a NUT FREE school and have both children and staff with nut allergies so packed lunches and treats from home need to support this. We also have a very vulnerable child at school so please contact school if your child has any allergies and illnesses.

Each week, class teachers are going to give us a snippet of life with their class so you can all read about what children have been learning, we hope you all enjoy these:

    • Welcome to the Marton family to all the reception children who have thrown themselves straight into school life. They are starting to learn all the routines, making new friends and beginning to learn all about busy exploring. What a good start to school.

    • Year 1 have had a brilliant start to the year, embracing new routines and exploring their classroom with big smiles. Our first topic is 'Structures', and we kicked it off by becoming master builders, creating and describing our very own houses.

    • Year 2 have made an incredible start to the year, they have come to school with such responsibility, enthusiasm and a desire to learn. We got straight down to work with Maths and English and are revisiting common nouns and proper nouns. We are getting to understand the needs of mammals and will be doing some bug hunting very soon.

    • Year 3 have been getting messy whilst Stone Age cave painting. We made our own prehistoric paint from berries, turmeric, charcoal, coffee and saliva (water) and had lots of fun doing it! This activity has launched our Stone Age to Iron Age historical enquiry and we are looking forward to finding out more about life in the Stone Age.

    • Year 4 blasted back in time to Ancient Rome, marching like soldiers and discovering the incredible inventions the Romans left behind. From roads to Roman numerals, the children had a thrilling first taste of life nearly 2,000 years ago!

    • Year 5 have had a fantastic first week back, diving into our new science topic on forces and already becoming hooked on our whole-class text Cosmic, eagerly wondering what adventures the rest of the book will bring!

    • Year 6 have made a brilliant start to the term, getting stuck into our new class text Holes with lots of curiosity and enthusiasm. We’ve also begun exploring monochromatic art, experimenting with shades and tones, while settling smoothly into new routines and responsibilities for the year ahead.

Have a wonderful weekend, see you all on Monday.

    Nevin Deakin
