    Head's Up!

    19 September 2025 (by headmarton)

    Weekly news from Mrs Deakin

This has been a very productive week and school has been super busy. We have all discussed Recycling for Recycle Week and our Eco Council have reminded us of the importance of Recycling. They gave a great assembly on Monday and this was very interactive. Thank you for being such great Eco Warriors!

We also held an Open Morning on Thursday and our Head Boy and Head Girl were great ambassadors for school and escorted our visitors around so confidently. Both Isla and Artie looked fantastic in their special school hoodies too.

We have loved seeing everyone dressed in their Jeans today for Jeans for Genes Day. Thank you all for supporting our School Council who organised this. We raised £154.12

Weekly news from our Busy Classes:

    • Reception have welcomed the colour monster into the classroom. We have been exploring different emotions and how we feel in different situations including going on a rollercoaster and starting school. The children have continued to explore lots of new resources and activities including water letter writing and number fans. We are becoming learners.

    • This week, Year 1 have been working like engineers to build tall towers and test their stability. The children have also really enjoyed finishing the book 'Tabby McTat', producing some wonderful sentences about the story, and have shown great focus when following instructions (algorithms) in computing.

    • Year 2 have been creating monochromatic mosaics in art this week and they look wonderful. It was fantastic to see so many children returning their homework this week, we had 24 books returned! Let’s keep this up. We have continued exploring "old machines" (typewriters) that were used to write and concluded that we were all very lucky to have the assistance of modern day technology to help us with our writing.

    • Year 3 have delved deeper into the stone age this week and explored continuity and change from the Palaeolithic to the Mesolithic era.  We looked closely at pictures of stone age artefacts, used interpretation to guess what the objects may have been and imagined how they might be used in everyday life. In science we have been learning about bones and the functions of the skeleton - we had particular fun building our own funny bones skeleton, using paper and split pins!

    • Year 4 have had such an exciting week – we learned how to draw with perspective, sang songs in French, and even played the glockenspiels in music! We’ve also been busy settling into our brand-new routines and working brilliantly together. To top it all off, we went swimming for the very first time and had a fantastic time in the pool!

    • Year 5 have had another fantastic week! The children are thoroughly enjoying their art topic, with an excellent lesson inspired by Mr Doodle where they created their own amazing "graffiti spaghetti" doodles. Our air resistance experiment plans are in motion for testing different sized parachutes next week. It was also brilliant to see so many pupils excited to hand in their homework—keep it up, Year 5!

    • Year 6 have had a fantastic week of learning! In science, we’ve been busy classifying living things, while in our PVPG English lessons we’ve been getting to grips with the difference between verb phrases and phrasal verbs. In geography, we’ve created our own ‘Plastic Pledges’ to reduce single-use plastics, and we’re excited to see how our small changes can make a big difference!

    Enjoy your weekend,

    Nevin Deakin
