    Head's Up!

    24 October 2025 (by headmarton)

    Weekly news from Mrs Deakin

We have really enjoyed this half term and want to congratulate everyone for working so hard and keeping so busy. The children have managed a very long half term brilliantly and they all still look super smiley! We hope you all enjoy a well-deserved rest over the break.

This week, staff and governors attended an Ofsted briefing following the recent revision of the Ofsted framework. It was a great opportunity to work together and reflect on our school priorities. We’ll be chatting more about Ofsted at our next Parent Surgery on Tuesday 25th November at 9am, and we do hope you can join us.

We conducted interviews this week and are delighted to share that Mr Myers has been appointed to take over Year 5 during Mrs Jones’ maternity leave. Mr Myers will officially start on Monday 10th November, giving us plenty of transition time with the children until Mrs Jones leaves in December to have her baby. He will also be attending Parents’ Evening alongside Mrs Jones.

Weekly news from our busy classes:

Reception have been busy learners again this week and finished this half term in style. They have completed their first full class compliment card. They were all very excited and proved what a team of learners they are becoming.  They have continued with the RE topic and talking about what makes them special and the importance of God's name. The children were very keen to talk about their ideas of who God is and what they would learn from the bible. Thank-you to all the families for the support they have given their children and the staff throughout the transition to school during this half term. All of the reception children are finishing the first half term standing tall and proud. Well done reception!

This week Year 1 have continued talking about Harvest by exploring the Jewish festival of Sukkot. We have been working incredibly hard on our literacy, from tackling tricky 'es' plural words to blending sounds in our heads when we read. Mrs Sparey is also so pleased with our resilience in Maths as we have mastered writing a variety of addition number sentences.  It's been a busy half-term and Year 1 have settled in so well and achieved so much!

We have had a lovely week in Year 2, it has been busy in the run up to Half Term but the children have continued to make me smile. We have finished off making the poppies for the church display and we are sure that ours will look lovely in the display. We have learnt how to use conjunctions to create a compound subject in our writing and continued to learn new ways to add and subtract. This week, we even got a sneak preview of the Key Stage 1 Nativity songs, its going to be upon us INN no time!

It has been such a great half term in Year 3! The children’s first half term in Key Stage 2 has brought new opportunities that the children have embraced whole heartedly,  new routines, new uniform (and tie hunts!) and the addition of French to the curriculum timetable, to name but a few things! We have also welcomed Mrs Longmuir to the Y3 team during this half term and the class have enjoyed an extra PE session with her this week to celebrate what has been a super start. In English this week, we’ve been using those magic bridges that connect 2 clauses together ‘coordinating conjunctions’ and our RE lesson saw us explore India and learn about the joyful Hindu festival of Pongal. We’re now very ready for a rest after such a busy and action packed few weeks. Well done Y3 -  enjoy a well-deserved break!

Year 4 have had an incredible week exploring the world of Roman Gods, music, art, and language! They played powerful glockenspiel rhythms fit for Jupiter himself, created beautiful poppies for our community project, and even described our pets in French. Our classroom has been buzzing with creativity, teamwork, and Roman godly energy!

It’s been another great week in Year 5! Mrs Deakin delivered a fantastic Smarties Maths Morning which the children absolutely loved and we explored gravity—investigating the science behind why mass doesn’t affect the speed of falling objects. I’d like to thank my lovely class for a superb first half term in Year 5; you are already showing such great responsibility and maturity both in and outside of the classroom, and our Playleaders have enthusiastically embraced their new roles on the KS1 playground. You deserve a wonderful week off ready for a jam-packed Autumn 2! I've been chatting with Mr Myers and he is so excited to get you know you properly after half term.

Year 6 have had a fantastic end to a busy half term! In English, we’ve been learning how to use parenthesis and punctuate lists accurately, while in science we’ve started our new topic on electricity. In RE, we’ve reflected thoughtfully on Christian beliefs about God, showing great curiosity and respect in our discussions. To celebrate all our hard work, we enjoyed watching Peter Pan together as a special class treat — a perfect way to round off the half term!

A gentle reminder to please travel one way around the mini roundabout at school, particularly at the start and end of the school day to help keep traffic flowing smoothly, thank you for your cooperation.

Have a wonderful half term break, we’ll look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday 3rd November,

    Nevin Deakin
