    Head's Up!

    14 November 2025 (by headmarton)

    Weekly news from Mrs Deakin

It’s been another fantastic week at school, full of learning, fun, and community spirit!

Today’s Odd Socks Day was a huge success! It was wonderful to see so many bright and mismatched socks around school, helping us celebrate individuality and raise awareness for Anti-Bullying Week. Thank you to everyone who took part and showed their support. Mrs Wood led a lovely assembly about this today too.

A big thank you to all the families who attended Parents’ Evening this week. It was lovely to share your children’s progress and celebrate their hard work together. Your continued support makes a huge difference.
Thank you too for supporting our School Book Fair! Your purchases will help generate valuable funds for the school, allowing us to buy new books and resources for the classrooms. Thank you too for all the Parent Surveys that have been returned so far, please do continue to send these before Monday 24th November.

Don’t forget – our Bedtime Phonics event takes place on Monday 17th November @ 6pm. Reception and Year 1 Children can come along in their pyjamas for a cosy evening of stories and phonics fun (and a bedtime snack). We’re looking forward to seeing everyone there!

Weekly news from our Busy Classes:

    • In Reception this week, we had found out who the Leaf Thief is!  When the children arrived, they discovered that all the beautiful autumn leaves from our collection had mysteriously disappeared! We explored our outdoor learning area to find signs of the Leaf Thief and they were everywhere. Leaves all over the floor, leaves hanging from trees and we watched the thief in action! Of course the Leaf thief is the WIND! Through all the excitement, we learned about the changing seasons, explored textures and colours in nature, and practiced our best storytelling voices. It was a week full of wonder, giggles, and imagination — and who knows, maybe the Leaf Thief will strike again!

    • It’s been a busy week in Year 1 as we've been working hard on our subtraction number sentences in Maths and our phonics skills for reading. We've also started exploring the amazing sense of sight in Science and have been learning to identify different digital devices in Computing.

    • Year 2 have had the most exciting week of the year (to date), finding out which role they are going to take on in the Key Stage 1 production. The children were buzzing upon hearing who they would be playing. We even started learning some lines. We have a long way to go but we are all now fully INNvested. Most of the children have finally got to grips with our tricky subtraction problems and next week we move on to SHAPE! The children have been writing about Minibeasts and have wowed us with their fantastic facts about Spiders, Dragonflies and Butterflies.

    • In Year 3 English this week, we have been exploring the features of non-chronological reports as we prepare to write our own. We’ve been creating exciting sentences, applying our punctuation and grammar skills, and using co-ordinating conjunctions and commas in a list to develop our ideas. All of this hard work is helping us build towards writing an informative and imaginative report all about Stone Age Beasts! In History, we’ve been learning about the Neolithic Beaker People and discussing why they were so significant. To bring our learning to life, we even designed and created our own unique clay beakers — with some super results!

    • This week, Year 4 have been busy exploring the 3, 6, 7 and 9 times tables, discovering fun patterns and amazing multiplication facts! In RE, the children learned about Terry Waite and how his trust in Jesus as the light of the world gave him hope even in very dark times. As part of Anti-Bullying Week, we reflected on how we can be a light for others by showing kindness, respect and standing up for what’s right. It’s been a week full of learning, reflection and shining bright together!

    • What a brilliant week it’s been in Year 5! We’re thrilled to have Mr Myers with us full time — he loved meeting so many of you at parents’ evening and is already settling in wonderfully. The children have been working hard in maths, mastering how to find equivalent fractions, and their enthusiasm has been fantastic. Our Christmas concert rehearsals are also in full swing, and it’s already sounding lovely — it’s shaping up to be a truly magical performance!

    • This week in Year 6 has been both educational and exciting! In our maths lessons, we delved into the world of fractions. We also enjoyed a fantastic team-building session provided by Kings School, where we engaged in various activities that promoted collaboration and communication among our classmates. The highlight of the week was our visit to the Manchester Police Museum. There, we explored fascinating Victorian artefacts related to crime and punishment. We also had the unique opportunity to participate in a mock trial set in a real Victorian courtroom, giving us a taste of historical justice and legal proceedings.

    Enjoy your weekend, Nevin Deakin
