    Weekly news from Mrs Deakin

Bedtime Phonics on Monday night was just wonderful and a chance for our Reception & Year 1 children to exhibit all their phonics understanding to their parents, they did themselves proud and looked super cute in pyjamas! I am so blessed to work alongside such dedicated staff and value every single one of their contributions. I have received so many comments about Bedtime Phonics that this will now become an annual event...there really is no place like Marton!

The children had a magical assembly this morning (with great excitement!) as it was our annual Christmas Shop assembly today. The Elves have worked so hard behind the scenes and children loved seeing all the special gifts they can buy for their friends and families. We even had a video from the real Father Christmas! Utterly magical! The Christmas shop will be open all day on Monday and Tuesday and then lunchtimes for the rest of next week. Each class will have chance to ‘view’ on Monday before buying too. Please don’t forget to help your child and record who they want to buy for as this helps the elves so much.

Weekly news from our busy classes:

The Reception classroom buzzed with excitement as we took part in Bedtime phonics. We were very keen to get our PJs on and show off what we can do in phonics. Thank-you to all the families who came and well done to the parents who joined in the fun by wearing their own PJs. In the day time we have been exploring animals around us including those who are nocturnal and those who hibernate. We created safe and warm places for a hedgehog to hibernate for the winter in. We carefully selected safe places and designed each special space. It is always good to see the outdoor classroom come alive with joyful, hands-on learning.

Year 1 had a wonderful surprise this week, hunting for hidden Action Men to launch our new English text, 'Traction Man'! We have also been retelling parts of the Christmas story in R.E.  In Art, we were inspired by Paul Klee to 'take a line for a walk' as we explored all the different marks we can make with just a pencil.

Year 2 have been busy writing up their non-chronological reports about Marvellous Minibeasts. They have been including the conjunctions "because" and "if". We have moved on to our topic of Shape and the children have really impressed me with their knowledge off shape so far. The nativity is coming along nicely and everyone is joining INN. Only 4 weeks to go until the parents get to see their wonderful children acting on the stage.

It’s been another busy week here in Year 3! Our very own non- chronological reports about Stone Age Beasts are well underway. In maths, we have been developing our knowledge of multiplication and division and have been applying our 3x table - keep practising on Timetables Rockstars Y3! Excitement is building in Computing, as we dive into our Dancing Robot unit. Year 3 have been busy designing and drawing their very own robots, ready to animate next week. There’s real excitement as everyone looks forward to bringing their creations to life!

We’ve had another busy and exciting week in Year 4! In ELSA with Mrs Woodmass, we have been thinking about kindness and discussing what makes a good friend. The children shared some lovely ideas about helping others, listening, and being supportive. In Maths, we have been learning the 11, 12, 1 and 0 times tables, and the children have shown great determination in building their confidence and speed. In English, we have been writing up our non-chronological reports on Roman Gods. The children have worked hard to include clear facts, subheadings, and interesting details. In French, we learned more vegetable vocabulary, including petit pois and haricot vert. The class enjoyed practising their pronunciation and using the new words in short phrases. Well done to everyone for their hard work this week!

Year 5 have had a wonderfully thoughtful and creative week! We’ve reflected deeply on how to welcome and celebrate the differences that make our school community special, explored exciting cohesive devices to shape our Luminara non-chronological reports, and topped it all off with great enthusiasm as we dove into the world of cartoons during whole-class reading. Well done team!

Year 6 have thrown themselves into their learning this week! In English, we’ve been imaginative writers, crafting our own pieces with flair and enthusiasm. In maths, we’ve been adding and subtracting fractions, and in whole-class reading we’ve been exploring a poem together, thinking carefully about its language and meaning. We’ve also brought our science unit on electricity to a close, reflecting on everything we’ve learned. And of course, we’ve begun rehearsals for our Christmas Carol concert — and we’re already sounding fantastic!

Reminder that we have Parent Surgery next Tuesday @ 9am – all VERY welcome! Please don’t forget to send your Parent Surveys back by Monday too.

PLEASE do ensure all children have warm coats (hats and gloves etc) as the weather has turned very chilly this week.

    Keep warm and cosy
