    Weekly news from Mrs Deakin

I hope you have all received the Parent Survey results via email this week, thank you for your support and for trusting us so much. We discussed these results in our Parents Surgery and these have now been added to the school website.

The Christmas Shop this week has been utterly delightful; it has been a joy to hear children so excited and so animated choosing gifts from their friends and families. The Elves have been nothing short of AMAZING and we thank them all for being so wonderful and so supportive. The elves did tell us how polite and well-mannered the children have been and we are very proud of them!

Are you all excited for the Congleton Light switch on tonight? Our beautiful choir are performing and we are all looking forward to watching them later, do wrap up warm and join in the singing!

Weekly news from our busy classes:

The children in Reception had a wonderful time exploring stick man activities, full of smiles and excitement. They loved creating the stick family using their knowledge of size and sequence. Sticklady Love asked reception to write a Stickman missing poster because she would like him to be home in time for  Christmas. The classroom buzzed with happy chatter as they acted out stick man adventures, begin learning joyful Christmas songs, and talked about the importance of the special people in their lives during RE.

Year 1 have been very focused on our handwriting this week, trying to keep our letters on the line in English and writing some great sentences about Traction Man.  They have been exploring drawing different lines in Art ready to create their final artwork next week. The children also loved our Science 'sound walk' and have had great fun spotting patterns with shapes in Maths. Our Nativity rehearsals are going brilliantly, with many children now knowing their words by heart and learning to project their voices! Good job Year 1!

This week Year 2 started on a writing journey that will culminate in them writing a recount about Little Red Riding Hood. We looked at the features, the structure and what else we might include in this letter. We have continued to look at where we are in the world and how are climate is different to others, especially in the polar regions. In maths we have progressed on to 3-D shapes and trying to get our heads round the fact that there are some faces we can't see on 3-D shapes. There has been some real dedication by the children with learning the lines for the nativity and we now it’s going to be an INNcredible show.

Year 3 have been learning about the woolly rhinoceros and creating sentences with subordinating clauses in our non-chronological reports.  We can't wait for these to be completed, so we can put them in the Y3 authors box in our class reading area. It was great fun becoming stone age people and gathering 'food' outside this week. Watch out for the Death Cap Mushroom and Giant Hogweed - They are poisonous!!! We really enjoyed this activity, but were surprised to find acorns, dandelions and nettles made up many stone age meals!  After we collected as much food as we could find, we learned about its seasonality. Our work on stone age food forms part of our DT cooking unit, providing ideas for us to make our very own stone age dish! YUM!

Year 4 have been working hard rehearsing for our Christingle worship, which will take place next Thursday at 9.15am. The children are learning their lines beautifully and are really enjoying preparing something special to share with you. We can’t wait for you to see their calm and thoughtful performance.
As a shared text, we have continued exploring The Queen of Darkness, which tells the story of Boudicca and the Romans. The class has been gripped by the tension, drama, and bravery in the story.

Year 5 have had a fantastic week filled with curiosity and enthusiasm! In History, the children loved exploring the Anglo-Saxon heptarchy, diving into the kingdoms that shaped early England. Their French lessons were equally exciting as they learned to recognise and begin to order a variety of food and drink items in a French café. In Maths, the class made great progress learning how to sort and order fractions. It’s been a busy and brilliant week of learning!

In our Year 6 RE lesson we made our own Advent wreaths and learned about the symbolism of each candle. In French, we explored animal vocabulary and practised saying the names of our pets. In PE, we continued developing our skills through a range of active challenges. In maths, we divided fractions by integers, and in English we began a new writing genre — discussion texts — by feature-spotting and brainstorming arguments for and against different viewpoints. We also loved visiting the Elfridges Christmas shop to choose gifts for our friends and families!

Please don’t forget its Children’s Christmas lunch Day next Wednesday. Rachel always produces a delicious lunch for us and we are so lucky to have her looking after us. It was Rachel’s special birthday this week and we sang songs and surprised her on Tuesday with gifts, balloons and banners.

We had some further special news on Wednesday as Mrs McGuire gave birth to her beautiful twin boys. The little babies (and Mummy) are doing very well and we are sending SO much love to Chloe, Jake and Henry. Special mention to Jess who has been nothing short of incredible this week too! Welcome to the World Reuben and Isaac from your Marton Family, we can’t wait to meet you!

Autumn, the Therapy Dog is visiting Congleton Library on Saturday 13th December 10.30-11.30am. This is a great opportunity for children to read unjudged to a therapy dog and for parents to find out more about the library’s ‘Reach Out And Read’ scheme. Do attend if you can!

I am delighted to confirm we will all be walking to Church on the last day – Friday 19th December for our annual Church services. As in previous years, EYFS & KS1 will aim to leave school @ 9.15am and KS2 will aim for 10.30am. Please contact your child’s class teacher if you’d like to walk with us, we’d greatly appreciate your help.

Enjoy your weekend, don’t forget it’s the First Sunday of Advent this week too
