Weekly news from Mrs Deakin
We have really begun to feel the Christmas spirit and it never ceases to amaze me just how magical this time of year is at school. We have had so much to share and celebrate this week and the countdown is definitely on! Please do keep checking School Jotter as we don’t want you to miss all the special events planned.
Congleton light switch on was really lovely event last Friday, well done to our beautiful Choir and to Mrs Jones and Mrs Cook for working with our children, they sounded so Christmassy! Thank you to all families that came and supported too.
This week our ‘Little Seeds’ session had some very special visitors as Santa, Mrs Claus and a pretty Elf surprised everyone and gave the children a little gift from the Marton Family. We wish all our Little Seeds families a very Happy Christmas and will welcome them back in the new year (next session - Wednesday 4th Feb).
We all had a delicious Christmas lunch this week with lots of Christmas music. Christmas lunch is always a very special occasion at school and the ladies did us all proud. Thank you Rach and Liz!

Weekly news from our VERY busy classes:
Reception is full of the Christmas cheer as they joyfully welcome the start of the festive Christmas season. With big smiles and lots of enthusiasm, they begin rehearsing for their Christmas play on the stage and sharing in the magic of the story together. The children delight in listening to Stickman's stories about the adventures he has been on around school. Reception proudly create their very own Christingles with bright oranges, candles, and sweets. Thank-you so much to the year 6 who were excellent role models to all the reception children as they helped us make each Christingle. Reception were very good and careful with their own lit Christingle during the beautiful service. Laughter, creativity, and festive cheer fills the classroom as everyone enjoys this special and happy time of year.
Year 1 are definitely feeling the Christmas spirit. We enjoyed our Christmas dinners, and Mrs Sparey got to pull a lot of crackers! We loved making our Christingles with Year 4, and nibbling the sweets after Year 4's beautiful worship. We have finished our art piece - Mrs Sparey is so pleased with our monochrome mountains! We have continued with our Toy Man story and have written some fantastic sentences with capital letters, full stops and neat handwriting. We've all been dazzled by the children's performances this week - their lines have been so clear. Well done Year 1, I'm so proud of you.
It was so lovely to watch Year 2 in the Christingle service this week. They really enjoyed making their Christingle oranges and munching on the sweets after the service. We have been learning all about Good News this week and thinking about why the birth of Jesus was such good news, how the good news was spread and how we spread good news today. We have continued with our topic of shape and have been drawing 2-D shapes and counting edges and vertices on 3-D shapes. There is a real buzz INN the classroom in the run up to our nativity and the final weeks of term.
This week, Year 3 have been busy preparing for the KS2 Christmas performance and begun putting together our class worship ready for next Thursday morning. We hope our families can come to join us if they are able to!
In class we have been exploring whether the Stone Age people were able to maintain a healthy and balanced diet as we continue researching for our Stone Age cooking project next week!
In computing, we have explored coding on scratch junior - Year 3 are really enjoying putting their improved coding skills into practise!
This week’s highlight was our Christingle worship, which we were proud to lead for the whole school. We worked hard to prepare, and everyone showed confidence, teamwork and beautiful reflection. We also loved supporting Year 1 with making their own Christingles. Year 4 felt very grown up guiding the younger children, helping them with each step, and sharing what the symbols mean. It was wonderful to see how kind, patient and responsible everyone was.
Year 5 have had an exciting week filled with creativity and challenge! In English, the children have stepped into the shoes of Vikings, crafting clear and imaginative instructions on how to raid an Anglo-Saxon settlement. In Maths, they’ve enjoyed stretching their skills by adding fractions through finding common denominators. Rehearsals for the Christmas performance are also coming along brilliantly, with confident singing and expressive narration shining through.
Year 6 have had a brilliant mock SATs week — they stayed calm, behaved beautifully and tried their very best. I’m incredibly proud of their determination, focus and conduct throughout. We also continued our Crime and Punishment unit in history, learning about witch trials during the Stuart period and even interviewing people accused of witchcraft to bring the topic to life! Later in the week, we paired up with the Reception children to make Christingles, which was a lovely opportunity to work together across the school. We all enjoyed the beautiful worship led by Year 4 — a wonderful moment of reflection, which looked so beautiful as the hall lit up with candlelight.
