Weekly news from Mrs Deakin
Have you all started your F & F Scratch cards, any lucky winners? We are very lucky to have such great support from Marton Friends & Family and they have had a busy week with the Big Clothes Movement on Wednesday night and Childrens discos last night. Thank you for everyone’s help!
We hosted an Open Evening on Monday and welcomed lots of new families interested in joining our school family. Please don’t forget to apply for school places for September by 15th January.
Well done to Year 3 for their Class Worship on Thursday morning, this was a beautiful Christmas event and lovely to see so many parents at school. Please don’t forget to contact your child's class teacher if you can accompany us to Church next Friday too.
Weekly news from our busy classes:
Reception had a wonderful week enjoying the antics of the cheeky Bud elf who appeared around the school each morning. The children loved discovering what she had been up to and used her adventures as inspiration for writing their own captions and short sentences. They also created colourful shape pictures including rectangles and squares. Reception have been exploring the First Christmas and creating the very important nativity scene. To end the week, reception came together in a joyful celebration of our Wow work, sharing their work and reflecting on the fun and excitement their festive visitor had brought.
Year 1 have worked really hard writing letters to Bud the Elf this week - they've asked some amazing questions! We're hoping that Bud will reply if we leave the letters out. We've had great time talking about toys that older people (like Mrs Sparey!) played with as children and then comparing them to the toys that they played with - there are so many similarities! The children have been busy practising and they do sound amazing - I know you will be wowed too! We've continued our RE as we've talked about Epiphany and the Festival of Kings. If we could meet the Wise Men, Year 1 would ask them some very thought provoking questions!
This week, Year 2 have been investigating wheels and axles as part of their DT project. They will be using this knowledge to help a very special person with lots of special deliveries in the coming festive season. The singing and play practices this week has been INNcredible and next week you all get to see how the work they have all out in has come together. I am sure you will be very proud.
Year 3 really enjoyed leading Collective Worship this week. Our special worship was based upon community and the birth of Jesus. Year 3 did so well and spoke beautifully in front of the whole school and those families that were able to join us. Thank you for the support of our wonderful families! In class, we have been making Stone Age Fruit Stew - practising and learning hygienic food preparation and how to safely handle a knife using the bridge method for cutting and claw method for slicing. This Palaeolithic dish went down a treat for some of our children with a big thumbs up for taste, but others were very glad that they didn’t need to eat the food of a Stone Age person!! Well done Year 3!
Year 4 have had a very busy and exciting week in DT! We’ve been learning all about electrical circuits and have even started designing our own Christmas decorations. Our next challenge is to bring them to life by adding lights! We also enjoyed a fantastic Christmas in a Box workshop with New Life Church, which added even more festive fun to our week.
Year Five have had a fascinating week exploring the Christmas story, comparing the versions from Matthew and from Luke and discussing why the accounts differ. They were fascinated to discover the differences between these two very different versions of the Nativity, comparing them with the versions they performed when they were younger. A highlight of the week was their exciting trip to Eaton Bank, where the children were treated to a wonderful Christmas concert performed by exceptionally talented secondary students. The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience and returned full of festive cheer.
Year 6 have had a wonderfully busy and festive week! In RE, we wrote diary entries from the perspective of Mary, exploring her thoughts and emotions during key moments in the life of Jesus. We also finished reading our class novel, Holes, and used it as inspiration for our discussion texts, debating whether children should be sent to the juvenile detention centre featured in the story — Camp Green Lake. We’ve put the finishing touches to our Carol concert, and we’re sounding fantastic. We also enjoyed getting into the Christmas spirit by making decorations with Mrs Cook, and in DT we acted as elves in Santa's workshop by designing our own moving toys, which we are really looking forward to building next week!
Best wishes
