End of term news from Mrs Deakin
As we come to the end of a busy and enjoyable term, we’d like to share some of the festive activities that have taken place across the school this week; Our Christmas productions were a real highlight. The children performed with confidence and enthusiasm, and it was lovely to see so many families there to support them. Thank you for helping with costumes, lines, and all the preparations at home too. Christmas Jumper Day and our Santa Dash brought plenty of smiles yesterday and everyone looked so festive! A big thank-you to the School Council for helping to organise both events. Thanks to F&F for all the delicious refreshments at our performances and all their fundraising too.
Today children are coming home with end of term reports and something even more delicious – a Selection Box kindly donated by one of our wonderful families. How kind and thoughtful. Thank you so very much!
Our annual church services this morning were delightful and the children took part beautifully, thank you to all the special adults who accompanied us to Church today too and to Rev Jim for his support. As I write this the children are having party afternoons in their classes with plenty of games and activities to round off the term, not to mention some chocolate too! The sound of laughter is ringing throughout the school and it feels such a joy to listen to.
Weekly News from Festive Classes:
Reception have done it! Their first full term at school! It has been a wonderful journey of discovery, as the class has settled into school life with enthusiasm and confidence. From making new friends and learning daily routines to exploring stories, numbers, and creative play, each child has brought their own personality and joy into the classroom. The room has been filled with laughter, curiosity, and kindness, creating a warm and welcoming environment for everyone. As the term draws to a close, the excitement of the festive season has added an extra sparkle, with songs, crafts, and celebrations bringing the class together. We end the term on a joyful high, proud of a class full of happy individuals who have grown, thrived, and shared many special moments together.
Year 1 have shown us all how amazing they can be! I am so proud of them and they've said how much fun it was to share the Inn Crowd with you all. I'd like to say that the songs aren't still going but I keep hearing little hums or snippets being sung! We have finished off our RE topic (about gifts) by making a little gift that will hopefully make its way home to you! We've enjoyed this festive season and have loved making, drawing, dashing, singing and celebrating Christmas together.
I could not be prouder of Year 2 this week, their commitment to The INN CROWD was just amazing. They all really enjoyed performing it for you on Wednesday and their faces were beaming all day. Also in Year 2 this week, in DT, the children have become inventors and have created a vehicle for Father Christmas to use to deliver his presents. We loved watching and supporting Key Stage 2 in their Christmas performance too.
Year 3 have been busy working on their RE unit of work this week. They have explored how the presence of Jesus impacts upon the lives of Christians. We learned about a statue of Christ in Strasbourg that was bombed during WW2 and found under rubble in excellent condition - only the hands were missing! Church leaders turned down offers to restore the statue, as it became symbolic of Christians around the world being the hands of Christ and doing God's work. This story really captured the children's attention and created some lovely discussion! Needless to say, our highlight this week was Y3 performing in their first KS2 Carol Concert! All staff have been incredibly proud of the children's enthusiasm and effort, as they created a magical performance to be proud of! We hope you enjoyed it!
We have had a lovely final week before Christmas in Year 4. The children have worked incredibly hard, and we are so proud of them for their fantastic performance in the Christmas production — they truly shone and showed great confidence and teamwork. Year 4 also really enjoyed supporting our Early Years and KS1 children during their Christmas performances. It was wonderful to see them being such positive role models and showing kindness and encouragement to the younger pupils. Well done to all of Year 4 for such a successful and festive end to the term!
In their final week of term, Year Five enjoyed taking part in the school’s annual Santa Run, proudly wearing their festive jumpers as they completed laps around the playground. A standout moment was their wonderful performance of A Christmas Carol, where they showcased their talents through narration, singing, dancing, and even creating props behind the scenes. They also concluded their RE unit by reflecting on the Christmas story, comparing Matthew and Luke’s accounts and deciding which elements they felt were most significant. It has been a busy, joyful, and memorable end to the term as they head into the Christmas holidays.
Year 6 absolutely loved performing our A Marton Christmas Carol shadow show — the children were fantastic and should be very proud of themselves! In DT, we designed and made moving toys as part of our mechanical systems unit, showing great creativity and problem-solving skills. We also enjoyed watching Holes as a class to conclude our work on this much-loved novel. To make the experience even more memorable, we tucked into some brilliant themed snacks, including Oreo-dusted chocolate mousse pots to “dig holes” in, gummy snakes, ‘Sam’s onions’ onion rings and Kate Barlow’s peach juice — fun and yummy!
ELSA News: We have enjoyed the introduction of The Elsa Patch during lunchtimes this term. Children have enjoyed having time to talk, completed mindfulness colouring and even decorated snowmen cookies. This has been a lovely experience for both the children and myself.
WHAT. BUSY. CLASSES! We have all felt so proud of our children during this very busy term and I’d like to thank everyone of them and every member of staff for making Marton the great school it is. There really is no place like Marton!
Please don’t forget to join in any of the beautiful church services over the holidays, details of these were posted on Tuesday on School Jotter.
Thank you so much for all the beautiful and thoughtful gifts sent into school this week, we are all so grateful and would like to thank you all for being so kind. Wishing all our Marton friends and families the VERY best Christmas with much love and luck for the new year.
