    Weekly news from Mrs Deakin

We all really enjoyed our post-Christmas Panto yesterday and the children behaved beautifully. This week’s Worship theme has been all about Friendship and Miss Copestick launched the week with making ‘the longest friendship bracelet, ever’. It has been wonderful to see children making this and interacting with each other. Nick from New Life and Rev Jim also led Worship on the friendship theme and we have all enjoyed this week at school very much!

Our Year 5 & 6 took part in Indoor Athletics @ EBA on Wednesday and had a super time, huge thanks to Mrs Andrews for driving their Eaton Bank mini bus and to Mr Marks for accompanying the children.

    Weekly news from busy classes:

Reception have started an exciting new topic inspired by The Storm Whale in Winter. The children are exploring the story through imaginative play, discussion, and creative activities, while also investigating what happens on a frosty winter morning. They have been observing ice, talking about cold weather, and using rich language to describe what they see, hear, and feel, bringing the wintry world of the story to life. Thank-you to all the reception families who had made polar animals at home to decorate our role-play area.

Year 1 have loved our art this week, we've been mixing colours and painting rainbows.  We're learning about animals in science so we know the difference between a mammal and a bird.   In Geography, Year 1 have remembered the names of the continents and we're now beginning to understand a bit more about them and which animals live there.  We have been practising numbers to 20 and we're getting better at counting backwards from 20 and writing those tricky teen numbers the right way round!

Money has been the topic on all of the Year 2 children's minds this week. It’s tough but with practice, we hope to get it sorted. I know that some parents have set up their very own shops at home to help the children understand and this is great commitment from the children (and the parents), thank you. We have written the first part of our recount and they are looking great. The children have been learning about colour mixing paints and also about the four countries of the United Kingdom.

This week, Year 3 have explored different types of rocks, finding out  their properties and grouping them. We're looking forward to becoming true geologists when we examine and test different rocks next week! In English, our imaginations have been ignited, as we have been drafting thrilling introductory paragraphs about the mysterious Tomb of Wonders, lying in wait for a very special person, worthy enough to open it! It was great to welcome M and M Theatre Company in to school and have a delicious snack to follow!

This week in Year 4 maths, we have been learning to master column multiplication and showed great determination with some tricky challenges! In English, we wrote and edited our narrative texts about Boudicca, adding powerful speech to bring our stories to life. In art, we created colourful photo collages, exploring different layouts and creative designs. We also began preparing for Robinwood, with lots of fun conversations about the exciting adventures ahead!

This week, the children in Year 5 finished their history work by learning about what life was like in the North West of England during the reigns of the Anglo-Saxon and Viking kings before launching into outer space to learn about the different planets in our solar system. We were visited by a member of Cheshire East Fire Service who spoke to the children about road safety. The children also made Mr Myers feel very old in computing where they discussed ancient technology like CD walkmans and mobile phones which could only send and receive phone calls.

Year 6 have had a great week of learning! In maths, we’ve started our new unit on ratio, while in English we’ve begun writing vivid setting descriptions of a battlefield, using powerful language to create atmosphere. In history, we explored the political leadership of Germany, beginning our understanding of events during World War II. To top it all off, we absolutely loved watching the Snow White pantomime that visited school — oh yes we did!

A message from Mr Marks: Sportshall athletics

The Year 5 and 6 Sportshall athletics team turned up to Eaton Bank on Wednesday full of enthusiasm and loud voices. The children behaved impeccably and it was so inspiring to see the children cheering and encouraging each other. The team performed really well and were only just pipped at the post in to second spot. Special mention has to go to the boys team who only lost one race! Well done Team Marton who go again next week at the cross country on Tuesday.

Please do read the important message posted earlier today regarding United Utilities and the disruptions we may face whilst their repair works are undertaken.

    Enjoy the weekend,
