    Weekly news from Mrs Deakin

This week has been a busy and exciting one in school and it was a pleasure to welcome you all for Parent’s Evenings. We were delighted to also welcome the NSPCC “Speak Out and Stay Safe” campaign for children in Years 2, 5 and 6. The children were highly engaged and took a great deal from the sessions.

On Thursday, we held our termly Christian Values Day, focusing on the theme of Communion. Rev Jim kindly began the day with a beautiful Communion service for the whole school, setting a thoughtful and reflective tone. He then blessed all children as he presented them with a Palm Cross and this was a truly thoughtful Worship.

Today, the children are heading home with an Easter egg, generously donated by one of our wonderful families. They always are so thoughtful and this is such a treat for everyone; thank you SO much. A huge thank you as well to Rach, who prepared a delicious Easter lunch for everyone. It has been a lovely way to end the term, and we are now looking forward to a well-earned and enjoyable Easter break.

There has also been great excitement surrounding our upcoming KS2 production of Peter Pan. Thank you to Mrs Cook and Mrs McLean for organising and conducting the auditions. Well done to all the children who took part—roles were announced on Monday, and anticipation is already building. Last year’s production was incredible, and we are confident this year’s performance will be even better! Please do check out yesterday’s Peter Pan information on School Jotter with all important production dates on.

We were pleased to share yesterday that our school uniform will be undergoing a refresh. New School Performance Tops (available as ¼ zip or full zip) will gradually replace our current jumpers and hoodies. These will be compulsory for Reception children from September 2026, and for the whole school from September 2027. We are not expecting families to purchase new items immediately unless needed but wanted to give you all plenty of notice. Friends & Families will continue to offer preloved uniform, and we encourage this as a first option.

School uniform remains available from DP Sports (50 Bromley Road, Congleton, Cheshire, CW12 1PT) or online via their website. Our updated uniform policy, including images, will be available on the school website soon, and we will continue to send reminders ahead of the full rollout in September 2027.

Please can I also remind everyone that children are NOT to come into school with false or painted nails too. Thank you.

    Weekly news from Busy Classes:

Reception enjoyed celebrating the Easter story with great excitement and curiosity. The children listened carefully, asked lots of thoughtful questions, and shared their ideas about what the story means. Please ask your children to reflect on this learning during the Easter period. They took part in a very special worship, joining in with songs and quiet reflection, making it a meaningful and memorable experience for everyone. They end the Spring term with a Easter Egg hunt. Happy Easter to everyone!

Year 1 have worked really hard this week to create their final DT project.  They have created a story page with a moving mechanism, they've had to problem solve and be creative and they've loved it!  For Christian Values Day, we joined Rev Jim for a communion service and reflected on our community as we created El Salvador crosses.  We have also been talking about how to keep ourselves safe and how to make sure our bodies are healthy.  As always, we've been superstars with our phonic sessions.

Year 2 have had a brilliant end to a short but wonderful term. For Christian Values Day, we had a beautiful Communion service with Revd Jim and we have created some stunning El Salvador crosses that will be combined with crosses from all across Congleton to form a display at All Saints Church, we love being part of these projects. We had special visitors from the NSPCC and listened to their campaign about "Speaking out and Staying Safe". We have edited and written up our diary entries, transforming us in to the exciting world of Charles Darwin on his adventures on the HMS Beagle. In Maths we have been learning all about grams and kilograms.

Year 3 have enjoyed a thoughtful and engaging week reflecting on whether crosses are symbols of sadness or joy. The children explored crosses from Christian cultures around the world, discovering the unique and meaningful ways different communities interpret them. We were delighted to take a sunny walk to Marton Church, where we also learned about the changes you might expect to see in a church during Holy Week. Both children and adults were fascinated by the insights into Christian practice, and as always, Revd Jim encouraged plenty of thoughtful questions which Year 3 eagerly rose to!  Well done Year 3!

This week, Year 4 have been working hard on perfecting their writing, with lots of careful editing and improving taking place. We are really focusing on making our work the best it can be! In English, we explored the story of the Minotaur, and our fantastic written instructions proved that Theseus was no match for us – we guided him safely through the maze with clear and creative steps. We also enjoyed celebrating Christian Values Day, where we learned about El Salvador crosses and created our own beautiful versions. To top it all off, we ended the week with a delicious cream egg treat to celebrate the Easter holidays. A wonderful way to finish a busy and successful week!

Year 5 have had an exciting and engaging week of learning. In English, they wrote non-chronological reports about the newly discovered Spinosaurus mirabilis, and were fascinated by this strange and unusual prehistoric creature. In Maths, they have been rounding decimals to the nearest whole number, and in PE they have continued to develop their football skills with great joy and enthusiasm. The children also benefited from an important visit from the NSPCC and their mascot Buddy, where they learned about the role of Childline in helping to keep children safe.

Year 6 have had an exciting and meaningful week to end the term. The children were thrilled to find out their parts for our summer performance of Peter Pan, and we are all looking forward to rehearsals beginning after Easter. On Thursday, we took part in a special Christian Values Day, where the children enjoyed designing colourful El Salvador crosses, representing faith, hope and new life. We also had an important visit from the NSPCC on Wednesday, where the children took part in a “Speak Out, Stay Safe” session, learning about the importance of speaking up and knowing how to stay safe.

Have a wonderful (and delicious) Easter holiday,

    Nevin Deakin
