    Weekly news from Mrs Deakin

We had a fantastic time on Wednesday for Network Rail Day; thank you to Mr Marks for organising such an engaging and memorable experience for our pupils. Photos from the day are now available on the school’s Facebook page, and they truly capture what a wonderful event it was.

Samples of the new school uniform are currently on display in the school foyer for parents who would like to take a look. Please note that the new uniform will not be compulsory until September 2027; however, items are already available to purchase from DP Sports for anyone wishing to update their child’s uniform sooner.

Following our Parent Governor position; we will not be holding an election as only one nomination was received. I am pleased to confirm that Amy Rudgyard will continue in this role. Amy brings a wealth of experience to the Governing Board, and we are grateful for her ongoing contribution and commitment to the school.

Finally, I am delighted to share that we have appointed a new Mad House Manager, Becky Hargreaves. Becky will be joining the team in the coming weeks and will work closely with Jess to ensure a smooth and seamless handover. We are confident she will continue the excellent work already established.

    Weekly news from busy classes:

Reception had a wonderful week exploring plants and how they grow, showing great curiosity as they observed changes and talked about what plants need to thrive. They also learned about a very famous sunflower painting, which inspired them to create their own bright and imaginative artwork. The highlight of the week was STEM Science Day, where the children loved building sandcastles which would take the weight of a real brick, involving lots of working together creatively and enthusiastically.

Year 1 have had a fantastic week and not just because the sun is out so we've loved playing on the field!  They have been amazing problem-solvers, engineers and collaborators this week as we celebrated a day of science with Network Rail.  The children were amazing at creating bridges out of straws - all of their creations held the weights, it was amazing! We had to work together in groups and we're definitely getting better at helping each other.  We're enjoying looking at plant life in Geography and Mrs Sparey is amazed at Year 1's sketch maps- good job!  We are also talking about creation in RE and have been sharing some amazing facts about our amazing world - did you know cats can't taste sweetness?   And an octopus has blue blood? Christians believe God's creation is amazing! We're impressed with our world too.

Another  busy week in Year 2. The highlight of the week was the visit from Network Rail. We loved becoming engineers, designers and problem solvers for the day. Our favourite activity was building the sandcastles; it was amazing to learn how to build them strong enough for someone to stand on. We have started our new Fraction topic in Maths and have been adding exciting verbs to our writing. We have now finished our finger puppets in DT and are really pleased with the outcomes. We have also loved being on the field and enjoying the lovely weather.

This week, Year 3 loved their visit from Network Rail, taking on fun engineering challenges and working brilliantly as a team. In class, we explored the threats facing bees and how we can help protect these vital creatures. We also began our new maths unit on money and recapped pounds and pence. At the end of another busy week, we enjoyed athletics with Fin - getting in some practise for sports day later this term!

It’s been a busy and productive week in Year 4! In maths, our focus has been on the 4 times tables, and the children have been working really hard to build their confidence and speed. For spelling, we have been practising adding “s” and “es”, helping to expand vocabulary and improve accuracy in writing. We also had an exciting STEM Day with Network Rail, which the children thoroughly enjoyed. It was a fantastic opportunity to explore real-world problem solving and teamwork. In our topic work, we have now finished learning about earthquakes and Santorini, and the children have shown great interest and understanding of how these natural events occur. We have also begun a new and exciting topic on Ancient Greek mythological beasts, and the class is already very engaged and curious to learn more. Well done to everyone for such a great week!

Year 5 have had an exciting and inspiring week of learning. They thoroughly enjoyed their STEM day with engineers from Network Rail, discovering everything from how buildings are protected from earthquakes in Tokyo to how railway embankments are constructed in places like Congleton. In English, the children have begun their poetry unit by experimenting with similes and metaphors, while in Maths they have been calculating the perimeters of polygons and rectilinear shapes. In Science, they also carried out investigations to find the best thermal insulator, showing great curiosity and teamwork.

In maths in Year 6, we’ve been tackling angles, building confidence with identifying, measuring and calculating them. A real highlight of the week was Wednesday’s STEM Day with National Rail, where the children loved taking part in a range of engaging activities and learning more about careers and opportunities in engineering. We’ve also enjoyed our French lessons with Miss Peckham, continued working hard in preparation for SATs, and kept up the momentum with rehearsals for Peter Pan, which is already starting to take shape brilliantly!

Enjoy the beautiful weather this weekend, Nevin
