Everyone looked fantastic for Crazy Hair Day – thank you for your generous support with the ‘sweeties’ donations for the tombola. There’s lots of excitement building for Sunday’s F&F Fun Day.
A huge well done to Year 6 for their positive attitude and hard work during this week’s SATs. Thank you also to the staff for all their support, especially Mrs Wilson, Mrs Woodmass, Miss Peckham, Miss Forster, Mrs McLean and Mrs Cook.
Our Monthly Tuck Shop will take place next Thursday, 21st May, just in time for Half Term. Please do remember that school also finishes for children on Thursday next week. Friday 22nd May is Staff INSET Day.

Weekly news from Busy Classes:
Reception have been enjoying learning about different places of worship and exploring what makes a place feel special or holy to people. The children have shared thoughtful ideas and enjoyed discovering similarities and differences between places that are important to different communities. We have also been learning about keeping healthy by staying active through physical movement, making healthy food choices, and understanding how to stay safe in the sun by wearing hats, using sunscreen, and drinking plenty of water. We are all hoping the sunshine arrives soon so we can put this learning into practise!
Year 1 have had great fun this week painting and varnishing their leaf sculptures - they look fantastic! We have continued using the story of Hansel and Gretel to write exciting sentences. We are practising our phonics and loving decoding alien words! In maths, we have been using positional language ready to help us use the BeeBots in computing and have explored the Hindu creation story. We were really surprised to see so many similarities to the Christian creation story!
Year 2 have had a very busy and exciting week! We have begun our new persuasive writing unit and the children have already shown some fantastic ideas and enthusiasm. In RE, we have been learning about the Ascension and why it is such an important part of Christianity. In Maths, we have completed our fractions unit and next week we will begin learning about Time. This can often be quite a challenging topic, so any extra support and practice at home would be extremely beneficial for the children. In Science, we have been exploring the life cycles of humans and discussing how people grow and change throughout their lives.
The Year 3 class have had a week of creativity and discovery! Our English has focussed upon writing a science investigation, weaving in literary features to make the most informative report. Maths lessons have been all about mastering time, with pupils exploring AM and PM, as well as months, weeks and years - time certainly flies when you’re having fun! Creativity has also been blooming across the classroom: from completing eye-catching moving posters in DT, to designing bee-friendly gardens in Geography, and crafting thoughtful book sleeves all about the prophet Jonah in RE. It has been a week buzzing with imagination, hard work and plenty of proud moments!
This week in Year 4, we have been busy with lots of exciting learning! In English, we have finished writing non-chronological reports all about Hydra, using headings, facts, and interesting vocabulary to organise our information clearly. In Maths, we have been learning about money. Our weekly times tables focus has been the 6 times table, and the children have been working hard to improve their speed and confidence. In PSHE, we discussed the importance of keeping healthy and listening to our bodies by making good choices about rest, exercise, food, and wellbeing. In RE, we continued learning about churches and explored what features and symbols make a church a special place for Christians. Well done, Year 4, for another fantastic week of learning!
Year 5 have had a lively and enjoyable week of learning. In Maths, the children have been studying angles and have particularly enjoyed using protractors to measure angles up to 180°. In Computing and RSHE, they have been learning about the importance of posting thoughtfully and responsibly online, showing maturity in their discussions. Meanwhile, in Science, the children have been exploring reproduction in mammals and plants, and in PE, they have been developing their athletic skills with great energy and enthusiasm.
Year 6 have had a huge week as they completed their SATs tests, and we could not be prouder of them. The children approached each day with maturity and resilience, stayed calm and took the exams in their stride, showing just how much they have grown this year. They also thoroughly enjoyed our SATs breakfasts each morning — especially the three jars of Biscoff spread that somehow disappeared over the course of the week! Alongside SATs, we have still managed to fit in lots of exciting learning. In science, we started our new unit on adaptation and evolution, while in art we painted our clay models, bringing our creations to life with colour and detail. In French, we got quizzical with our language learning, and we also began preparing activities for our leavers’ assembly. To celebrate the end of a tough week, we enjoyed a brilliant Taskmaster morning on Friday, completing a range of challenges that required teamwork, creativity and plenty of lateral thinking. There was lots of laughter and some very inventive problem-solving! The children will also now be impossible to miss in the rainbow array of colours from their brand-new leavers’ hoodies, which they were absolutely delighted to receive!
Elsa: I have had the pleasure of spending some time in year 1 this week. We enjoyed talking about friendships and all children were able to take their work home to share with parents and carers.
Drama Darling: Peter Pan rehearsals are well underway, and excitement is building throughout the school! I cannot believe we have set the show already! Everyone has been working incredibly hard learning their lines, songs, and staging, and it has been lots of fun so far. I am so proud of the enthusiasm and effort the children are showing and can’t wait to share the performance with you all in July. Heidi Cook
See you all on Sunday, Nevin Deakin
