Weekly news from Mrs Deakin
What a lovely week! Our Enrichment Day on Wednesday was a real highlight, with team spirit in abundance. It was wonderful to see our older children working alongside and supporting our younger children; just another lovely example of our Marton family at its best.
We are also very proud of the 34 Marton children who took part in this year’s Summer Reading Challenge at Congleton Library — around 16% of our pupils and we have celebrated them in Celebration Worship today.
Please don’t forget Nasal Flu Spray Day is Monday 28 September for children whose parents have consented.
Weekly news from busy classes:
Reception was buzzing with excitement as our smallest learners explored early concepts, grouping colourful blocks to make sets and using autumn resources to compare different equalities. Laughter and lively chatter filled the room as the children met Clever Cub in RE. He will be taking us on lots of new adventures over the year. Reception eagerly took part in their very first PE enrichment day which of course involved some rain. Next week will bring more experiences to engage their happy and adventurous spirits.
This week, Year 1 has been busy exploring our local area in Geography, learning to spot the difference between human and physical features. In English, the children have loved gathering and writing some fascinating bear facts, while in Maths we have been working hard on finding one more and one less with confidence
What a busy and exciting week we’ve had in Year 2! In English, we have been learning about regular and irregular verbs, developing our understanding of how verbs can change when talking about the past. In Maths, we have been ordering and comparing numbers, using our mathematical vocabulary to explain which numbers are greater than, less than or equal to. We have continued our History topic, exploring how technology has changed over time. The children have enjoyed thinking about how technology from the past compares with the technology we use today.
A highlight of the week was our Sport Enrichment Day, led by the Year 6 children. We had lots of fun taking part in different sporting activities and thoroughly enjoyed learning from our older pupils. Well done, Year 2, for another fantastic week!
In Year 3, we have been throwing ourselves into French, and it has been fantastic to see the children’s enthusiasm for this exciting new KS2 subject. There have been lots of smiles, laughter and impressive attempts at speaking French! In Art, we’ve been looking closely at how to draw a realistic eye, carefully considering the shape, iris, eyelid and tear duct. The children have produced some fantastic artwork and have really impressed us with their attention to detail. We were also treated to a delightful Music session with Mrs Cook, exploring pitch and pulse. There was plenty of enthusiastic singing, listening and participation! A super week and a job well done – keep up the fantastic learning Y3!
What a busy and exciting week we’ve had in Year 4! We’ve been working hard across all of our subjects, with lots of Maths, French and Science this week. The children have shown great enthusiasm and have been keen to challenge themselves and share their ideas. In Art, we have been learning all about one-point perspective. We explored how artists create the illusion of depth and distance and then had a go at using the technique ourselves. The children produced some fantastic sketches and were really proud of their finished pictures! We’ve also been enjoying lots of reading this week. It has been lovely to see the children getting lost in their books, sharing their thoughts and discovering new stories and characters. Wednesday was our enrichment day, and despite the rather wet weather, it certainly didn’t stop us from having fun! We embraced the rain, got stuck into our activities and made the most of the day. There were plenty of smiles, laughter and memorable moments along the way. Well done, Year 4, for another fantastic week! You’ve worked hard, tried your best and shown lots of enthusiasm. We’re looking forward to another brilliant week ahead!
Year 5 have had a fun-filled and active week of learning. They thoroughly enjoyed their PE enrichment day, taking part in cricket, football, frisbee and playground games, and have continued their invasion games unit by learning the skills needed to play rugby. In English, the children have been developing imaginative introductions for their fictional planets, while in Computing they have been exploring decomposition and flow charts. In Maths, they have completed their work on place value and enthusiastically moved on to addition.
In Year 6 in English, we’ve continued developing our non-chronological reports, while in maths we’ve been exploring prime, square and cube numbers. In science, we have been busy classifying animals and thinking carefully about the characteristics that help us organise living things into different groups. In geography, we’ve explored our use of single-use plastics and created our own ‘Plastic Pledges’, thinking about small changes we can make to become more sustainable. A real highlight of the week was Wednesday’s Outdoor Day, when Year 6 were wonderful role models for the younger children across school. They took responsibility for leading groups through activities including frisbee, football, parachute games, hockey and a woodland walk. It was fantastic to see them showing such maturity, encouragement and leadership — we were very proud of them!
Finally, a huge thank you to all our families. We have been overwhelmed this week by the wonderful responses and support you have shown the school. It really does mean so much.
