Weekly news from Mrs Deakin
It has been another busy and positive week in school!
A huge well done to our Year 5 and Year 6 pupils who have taken part in Bikeability this week. We have been incredibly proud of their enthusiasm, confidence and commitment.
Thank you to the parents who joined us for our Parents’ Surgery yesterday, where we had the opportunity to discuss our recent Ofsted inspection and answer questions. We really value the support and partnership of our families.
We are fast approaching half term and Our children are all busy preparing for our Harvest Festivals. We are looking forward to celebrating together and welcoming you all to school soon.
Reminder – SEN Meeting: Parents and carers of children in Years 5 and 6 are warmly invited to attend a SEN meeting with EBA staff on Tuesday 13th October at 2.30pm.
We have been delighted to have welcomed Mrs Sophy Williams, our new Bursar, to school this week. Sophy has already become a much-loved member of our team and has been working alongside Mrs Laird, who will officially retire on 23rd October. We are so pleased to have Sophy with us and know that she will be a wonderful addition to our school family.
Weekly news around school:
Elsa news- today our Elsa bees conducted a special assembly about mental health. Saturday 10th October is World Mental Health Day so today the whole school have completed activities to support their wellbeing and learn the importance of looking after our minds and bodies.
Reception have been diving into the charming story Amazing!, using the book to spark their creativity and foundational learning. The children explored the character Zibbo the dragon, bringing him to life by creating paintings integrated with handwriting patterns to develop their fine motor skills and letter formation. In mathematics, they extended these creative patterns into the world of numbers and shapes by exploring and building colour and object sequences, combining art and early mathematical reasoning in a fun, engaging way. Topped off by their first forest school sessions with Mr Marks, where they created a very colourful friendship bench.
Year 1 have loved reading "Why Do We Need Bees?" this week, producing some fantastic sentences to share their favourite bee facts. The children have worked hard to complete our place value unit in Maths and are ready to begin addition and subtraction next week. Alongside reading "Max the Champion" in RSHE, the children have been busy practising their song for Harvest Festival, we do hope you can join us.
Year 2 have had a fantastic time learning lots of new things! In Maths, we have been practising our addition skills, while in English, we have been learning how to identify the subject in a sentence. In Science, we discovered how our heart rate increases when we exercise and why keeping active is important. The highlight of our week was our exciting trip to RHS Bridgewater! We explored the brand-new Chinese Garden and even met the fictional "Elliott Plant". It was a wonderful day full of discovery, adventure and fun! Well done, Year 2, for all your hard work and enthusiasm and thank you to the parents who helped out on Tuesday.
What a wonderful week we have had in Year 3! The children have been busy learning their Harvest song and are doing a fantastic job. On Tuesday, we enjoyed a brilliant trip to RHS Bridgewater, where the children were beautifully behaved and were a real credit to the school. We were so proud of them! This week, we also shared the lovely story This Is Our House by Michael Rosen and Bob Graham, exploring important themes of prejudice, empathy, sharing and inclusion. In Art, the children have been developing their sketching skills and learning how to draw a portrait. Well done, Year 3, for another fantastic week!
Year 4 have had another busy and exciting week of learning! In English, we have been busy planning our non-chronological reports about Roman gods and demigods. We have been putting all our learning into practice, organising our ideas and gathering interesting facts ready to write our reports. In History, we have been learning all about the mighty Roman army! We explored the different battle formations Roman soldiers used and discovered how their armour and equipment helped to protect them in battle. In Science, we have been developing our skills in collecting and recording data, thinking carefully about how to organise our findings. In RE, we have enjoyed reading stories from different faiths and exploring the important values they teach. We discussed how people of different faiths often share similar values, such as kindness, respect, honesty and helping others. Well done, Year 4, for another fantastic week of learning!
Year 5 have had a fascinating and varied week, full of opportunities to explore, investigate and discover. They particularly enjoyed a Science workshop with teachers and KS4 students from The King’s School in Macclesfield, where they explored the different states of matter, building on their own investigation into how the shape of objects can affect water resistance. In PSHE, the children explored different types of families through the heart-warming true story And Tango Makes Three, while in Art they have been developing their sketching skills using monochromatic colours. In History and Reading, they have been delving into Anglo-Saxon mythology and enjoyed comparing it with their existing knowledge of Marvel’s Thor and his Asgardian family. It has been wonderful to see the children making connections between different subjects and approaching their learning with such enthusiasm.
In Year 6 maths, we have been developing our calculation skills by tackling short division, while in science we have continued exploring the fascinating world of microorganisms, learning how to classify them and discovering more about viruses, bacteria and fungi. In music, we have been developing our understanding of musical notation. We also marked World Mental Health Day with a whole-class ELSA session, taking time to reflect on the importance of looking after our mental health and wellbeing. The highlight of the week has undoubtedly been Bikeability! The children have been developing their cycling skills, learning how to stay safe on the roads and growing in confidence and independence. It has been wonderful to see their determination, resilience and enthusiasm as they tackled new challenges. We are incredibly proud of their efforts and the maturity they have shown throughout the week. Well done, Year 6!
