Year 5 and Year 6 day out with Dan!
On Tuesday Year 5 and Year 6 had a fantastic time out at Brereton Heath with Ranger Dan.
The day started with a walk around the Heath looking at ways you would be able to survive if you were out in the wild, including eating hawthorn leaves, using ice from the top of chopped down tree stumps and peeling birch bark for lighting fires. Then back at camp the children were given a demonstration of fire lighting then sent off to build their own den.
Upon return to the camp it was time to cook some fresh mackerel (fresh from Tesco). The hildren really enjoyed watching Dan, and others gutting the fish. Some more den building and marshmallow toasting followed and then it was time to return to school.
The children all had a fantastic time and has given the Year 6 children a taster for PGL next term.
Thank you to all those parents that helped out with transport and to Pete and Paul for giving up their time to come and spend the day with us.
