Awesome display from the football team!
An amazing performance from the Year 5/6 (and Year 4) Girls football team today saw them crowned as Congleton Champions. An honour that is shared with Black Firs Primary School after a draw in the final.
The girls started the tournament well but were very unlucky to concede a wonder goal in the first match against Pickmere. That loss did not dampen the spirits and they came out fighting in all the following games in the group stage, resulting in 3 wins.
With the semi finals looming and some time off the pitch, the girls started practising their penalties and were looking determined. Little did we know that this practice would be called upon in the semi finals. A really closely fought game vs Quinta ended in a 0-0 draw. Up stepped the penalty takers and Lily in goal. Some calmly taken penalties and some great work in goal meant there was nothing to separate the teams so we went to sudden death. A cool taken penalty by Marton and a save from Lily meant we were through.
In a nail biting first half of the final, which was end to end stuff, both sides had the chance for victory but neither side could break the deadlock. Having decided that if scores were level at the end of the game a tie would be declared, the girls went out in the second half to try and bring home the trophy. Another truly inspirational performance by all the girls in the second half but no goals came. Joint champions and a ticket to progress trough to the Cheshire finals.
The girls have worked really hard in the last few weeks and a massive THANK YOU to Steve and Susie who have really developed the side.
