Marton triumph in sporting treble!24 May 2019 (by Year5) |
Sports success!
It has been quite a week of sporting success at Marton & District Primary school. In what may be the final week of primary sports competition for some of the outgoing Year 6 children, the teams have enjoyed fantastic results.
On Tuesday 22nd May, the whole of Year 5 and Year 6, making up 4 teams, were entered into the Tri-Golf competition at Haslington Golf Club. The children have been learning golf in their PE sessions with, Kickstart (www.wearekickstart.com) and expectations were high. Upon arrival at the golf club the children were excited and raring to go.
The children performed really well and the two Year 6 teams finished in 1st and 2nd place. The children now go forward to the Cheshire finals competition, where they will represent the Congleton and Sandbach schools.
On Wednesday 23rd May, 3 children from the school took part in the 2nd Knutsford Go-Tri Duathlon at Knutsford Academy. Michael (Year 6), Oliver (Year 5) and Thomas (Year 5) represented Marton school in emphatic style.
The Year 5&6 race started with a small field of about 15, Michael led the run but then had a battle on when a fellow competitor overtook him on the cycle ride. Michael, not happy with second place, soon over took the boy again and went on to win after another strong run.
Next up was the Year 3&4 race, with around 30 runners taking part. After a very fast start Thomas and Oliver both had great races. Thomas eventually finished in 3rd place and Oliver had a strong final leg of the race and finished in the middle of the pack.
The final addition of silverware came on Thursday 24th May at the netball. Having already won the league, Marton netball team made history by winning the Congleton School Primary netball tournament, sealing the Netball Double.
Their first match was against Black Firs B, they got off to the perfect start with a 9-0 win. They then faced Quinta A, in a tighter match which was 2-2 at half time! However, in the second half the team all upped their game with strong shooting and great defence, to score 6 more goals and win 8-2.
In the semi-finals they played Quinta B. Having already beaten Quinta A the team were full of confidence and played a really great game to win 10-1!
That set up a final against league runners up Black Firs A. From the first whistle they took charge of the game, scoring 4 goals before the opposition even had a chance, ending the first half 6-2 ahead. The final rotation of players in the second half saw our defence shut down all their shooting chances whilst the Marton shooters took charge to score 3 more. The final score was a well-deserved 9-2!
Many thanks to Emma (Y6), Millie (Y5) and Benedict (Y5) without them coming to training the team would struggle to train as effectively. A massive thanks to the parents for all their support.
The team would also like to say a massive thanks to their coach, Kaite Worlock.
“Without her we wouldn’t have had a chance of winning the league. She is always correcting us and helping us whenever we need, umpiring our practice games, organising friendly matches and making us the best netballers we can be!” stated the team.
“It’s been a busy week for the sports teams and the current Year 6 have performed well throughout their primary school career, so this week is just the crowning glory that they deserve,” added Mr Marks, the PE Co-ordinator.
