Important news about our focus value for this term and about children receiving Holy Communion.

    3 September 2019 (by headmarton)

For Years 4 - 6 Parents and Carers

As you know, each term we focus on one of our three foundational Christian values of Justice, Agape and Communion. This term, we shall be focusing on the value of Communion.

Each term as part of our values day we have a service of Holy Communion in our school community, at which some of the children and staff receive the bread and wine and all receive a blessing.

In the past, we have been able to share the bread and wine with children who already receive communion at their own church, but this excludes some other children who have expressed a desire to join in. We would like to become a more inclusive community and offer communion to all baptised (Christened) children, parents and staff who wish to receive it, regardless of whether or not they attend a church on Sundays.

In order that children can decide whether they wish to receive communion (and to help you as parents to decide whether they are ready), Revd Arch and Revd Naylor have prepared some short sessions and a workbook which will form part of our RE curriculum for this term. The sessions will take place at the end of the school day (3pm) on Thursdays, and will be accompanied by some short worksheets to do at home. Some of these are marked as “Family worksheets” which we hope will facilitate discussion with your child.

The sessions will also cover baptism as there may be some children who wish to receive communion but have not yet been baptised.

On 15th November to support our values day we are planning to take all the children in Y4-Y6 to the Chester Diocesan Retreat Centre, Foxhill, which is located about an hour away in Frodsham, for a day which is both fun and thoughtful. After this, children who wish to do so, and who have the support of their families, will be admitted to Holy Communion in a special service. Thereafter they will be able to receive Communion at any service in school or in church.

We would like to invite parents to an open question and answer session on Thursday 12th September at 9am, where we can provide any more information you would like. There will be further opportunities to explore baptism and communion as the term progresses.

    With best wishes,

Rev Arch, Rev Naylor and Mrs Deakin
