Foggy Football fills the team with Finals Fever!22 January 2020 (by Year5) |
The Year 5/6 football team took to the pitch on a foggy afternoon at Congleton High School with high aspirations on Tuesday. This was the second round of league fixtures following on from an unbeaten night in November.
The first opponents were Quinta and the boys dug deep to create a 0-0 draw. Some solid linking play between Kier and Thomas resulted in lots of pressure and shots but Marton were unable to find a goal.
The next opponents were a smaller Woodcocks Wells side who looked a little shell shocked by the end of the game. The boys took all their opportunities, defended well and kept another clean sheet. Both Olivers looked threatening every time they got the ball and Charlie broke down the wing with pace and intent. A 5-0 victory was the reward for the hard work.
Next up was Mossley, we had witnessed them crush a team 7-2 during our spare games and the boys were clearly nervous. However, the boys put on one of the best displays I have seen from a Marton football team. The boys challenged, defended with heart and passed the ball with conviction. Some incredible saves from Billy at one end and some devastating shots at the other end from Rhys were a sight to behold. Even with all the pressure we were again unable to beat the keeper to find the back of the net but neither were they. A fantastic 0-0 draw was how it finished.
A great night of football that will give the boys confidence to go into the Small Schools Cheshire finals on Monday knowing that they have the potential to do well. Watch this space.....
